Mazara del Vallo is a town in the province of Trapani, facing Mediterraneo sea, located at the mouth of Mazaro river and it is far 200 km. away from Nord Africa’s Tunisian coasts. Historic old town once enclosed within the Walls Norman, possesses many historical churches, some dating back XI century. Agriculture and fishing are the most important business in Mazara del Vallo, but fishing is particularly important because in Mazara there are present the most important Italian fishing-boats; but only Mazara’s fishing-boats succed to fish the famous Red Crayfish that is the most savoury and that lives only in seas near Mazara del Vallo. An important fact occurred in March 1998, when a local fishing-boat commanded by Captain Francesco Adragna has recovered a bronze sculpture 2 meteres, and it was situated about 480 meters deep into Canae di Sicilia. The sculpture is dated back to Hellenistic time and is famous with the name of Satiro Danzante. The sculpture, after being restored and exposed for a short time in Rome, at Montecitorio’s palace, now it is returned to Mazara del Vallo.
